Layering for Extreme Cold Weather

EXTREME WEATHER PROTECTION

The Vertex WX-D Collection is the ultimate protection against brutal conditions and temperatures between -15° - 5° C.

Just because temps are below 5°C doesn't mean you need to layer up like Ralphie's brother in the movie A Christmas Story.

Excessive layers only elevate body temperature, which leads to increased perspiration and an increased body chill in wind or times of reduced effort.

With the proper jacket,
you can skip a jersey and go with just a base layer, even in extreme cold.

The Thermoregulator has been designed to provide a stretchy form fit and optimal moisture transfer and heat regulation.

The unique construction using Dryarn®, not only the lightest textile fabric in the world but exceptionally efficient at pushing moisture away from the skin, means the Thermoregulator Base Layer simultaneously keeps you warm and dry without feeling bulky or heavy.

Ideally, winter tights should be wind and water resistant tights and designed specifically to ward off cold rain, sleet and snowy conditions.

We recommend the Vertex WX-D Bib Tight

Men & Women

They Vertex WX-D Bib Tight has been engineered with a cozy, brushed fleece interior and a Durable Water Repellent (DWR-coated) exterior for excellent protection on flex-points of the legs and hips.

For additional protection we have strategically paneled a 3-layer membrane material with cozy fleece backing in the lower-back area above the chamois and other primary wet-out areas (top of legs, calves, shins).

Women's Vertex WX-D Bib Tights have been designed with Clip&Pit™ technology for easy nature breaks.

The proper jacket for extreme cold needs to be engineered with fabric combinations that block chill while ensuring the retainment of interior warmth.

The Vertex is probably one of the lightest cold-weather jackets you'll own (just 383 grams in a size medium), but the efficiency of the wind-stopping fabric face and thermal, grid-fleece lining against your skin guarantees you will stay warm in extreme cold.

Designed with the uniquely structured Plastotex three-layer, stretch knit fabric that incorporates a waterproof middle layer and brushed grid-fleece lining. This allows the jacket to remain extremely lightweight while also providing exceptional protection.

While not 100% waterproof, the Vertex does include taped shoulder and arm-hole seams, and a YKK waterproof zipper. Gusseted cuffs firmly seal out cold and moisture creating a seamless connection with your gloves.

"Pactimo has a relatively simple plan to handle temperatures between zero and 45 degrees Fahrenheit, and it actually involves very little layering. Up top, Pactimo recommends a very warm base layer—like their High Grade Wool or Thermoregulator—matched to a really warm jacket with zippered vents, like the Vertex WX-D. And that's it. No jersey. If this feels a bit warm, go with a lighter base layer. As you warm up while riding, open your jackets zippers to drop heat and you won't need to worry about shedding layers."

Nothing will be as important to your lasting comfort in extreme cold as a good pair of gloves.

Perfectly suited for wet cool/cold rides and temps between -5º - 5º C, the Vertex Gloves feature a weather-blocking, liner-in-shell construction. To create optimal defense against wet cold, we've used a 3-layer DWR (durable water repellent) treated shell fabric over an Aluminum lined 40g Thinsulate insulation (which reflects body heat for increased interior warmth), and a waterproof membrane that prevents moisture from reaching your hand.
